![]() ![]() The subjective nature of the semantic scopes of these two tenses and the fact that their deployment frequently depends on the choice of the speaker are largely neglected by most of the materials analysed. This trend, however, has been changing steadily over the past years, as progressively more textbooks acknowledge dialectal variations in the use of Spanish past tenses. The findings reveal that most textbooks tend to favour the local variety. This language feature has been traditionally regarded as one that differentiates between the varieties of Spanish spoken on each side of the Atlantic, thus allowing the study of the variety preferred by authors. This study analyses the recognition of dialectal variation in L2 Spanish textbooks published in Spain with regard to the approach to describe the use of two tenses that convey past meaning: pretérito indefinido and pretérito perfecto compuesto. Actualmente Abraham está cursando estudios de doctorado en la Universidad de Melbourne (Australia). Durante sus estudios de máster, Abraham enfoca su investigación en el campo del español como lengua extranjera y en especial en las ideologías lingüísticas de estandarización y en las actitudes hacia la variación dialectal del español en el ámbito ELE. En 2015 comienza a trabajar como profesor en el departamento de español de la Universidad de La Trobe (Australia), donde también completa un Máster de Lingüística Aplicada (2017). Desde 2005 se ha dedicado profesionalmente a la enseñanza del español como lengua extranjera en varios países (España, Alemania, Nueva Zelanda y Australia) y ha enseñado a alumnos de una amplia variedad de edades y ámbitos educativos. Previamente también había estudiado una Diplomatura en Dirección de Cine (2003) en la Escuela de Cinematogafía y del Audiovisual de la Comunidad de Madrid. University of Melbourne, School of Languages and LinguisticsĪbraham Hernández Cubo completó dos licenciaturas en Filología Alemana (2004) y Filología Inglesa (2005), así como el Certificado de Aptitud Pedagógica (2005), en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
